Friday 6th of March will be the first time Tauranga group Tūtara Kauika ki Rangitaua will stand at the Te Matatini National festival after pursuing the opportunity to do so for nearly 20 years.
They’re the only Mataatua group in this pool.
The group's regional performance commemorated 150 years since the Battle of Pukehinahina.
Tūtara Kauika ki Rangataua's relations Te Kapa Haka o Ngāti Ranginui will be performing on Day 3, however, they're representing the Ngāti Kahungunu region.
Both teams can expect to be heavily supported by their Tauranga whānau when each team takes the stage.
