Unique designs for freshly launched NZ Super Rugby jerseys

The five New Zealand Super Rugby franchises launched their jerseys for next season today in Auckland. There's no doubt the Waikato region will be proud of the Chiefs new strip unveiled today.

Sam Cane says, “We've got a phrase which is actually in the jersey, saying "He Piko, He Taniwha" which means on every bend there’s a chief and it flows right through the region."

The strips were designed in conjunction with renowned local artist Dave Burke and Māori All Blacks Kaumatua Luke Crawford.

“The warrior in the middle represents the Chief, the player himself and the side of the gate is numerous different taniwha, which represent a different sub union,” added Cane.

For the Blues franchise, the jersey represents big changes within franchise. Jerome Kaino say, “New coaching set up, a lot of new players, and it’s a new year so why not a new jersey, so I’m looking forward to it.”

All five jerseys today showcased their own unique flavour for their respective teams. Even though it's just a jersey, it carries the weight of expectation.
