Waiariki Institute of Technology to help with affordable housing project

The shortage of affordable housing in New Zealand has prompted one of the country's tertiary institutes to commit to building one house a year, by utilising partnerships with various groups and their students.

Waiariki Institute of Technology is hoping to see other institutes take on building charity homes.  Making homes affordable is the key to this project in Rotorua.

The Waiariki Institute of Technology began this charity house project last year, which are built by students.

Last year, a four-bedroom home was completed at their site and it was auctioned for $143,000.

With the shortage of affordable homes, this project hopes to bridge the financial gap.

Waiariki Institute of Technology hope that other tertiary institutes will also commit to similar building projects, not just to build homes but to build a workforce.
