Waikato remains unbeaten in NZRL National Championship

In wet conditions, Waikato remains unbeaten with a win against Canterbury Development in their latest NZRL National Championship match. Waikato played in front of a home crowd, in Huntly, and only let Canterbury cross the line once, winning by 16 points.

Waikato extended their winning streak making it four wins from four matches.

Waikato Captain Adam Jolly says, “Despite the conditions I thought our team played really well.”

Coming off a win against Taranaki last weekend, it was Waikato's defence that kept their opponent scoreless in the first half.

Waikato got most of their points in the first half to lead 16-nil at the break.

“We tried hitting the big boys, it was hard gripping the ground we were slipping everywhere.”

Despite Canterbury constellation try in the end of the match, Waikato were too strong winning 20-4.

Canterbury Captain Willie Davis says, “Even though it was wet it was a nice fast game.”

Waikato will travel to Invercargill to play Southland this week, the Southerners also remain unbeaten.

The winner of this week's game will play the loser of the National Premiership next weekend, if they win they will be promoted to the National Premiership.
