The Waikato Regional Transport Committee is seeking government support to reduce the speed limit on Waikato rural roads from 100kmh to 80-90kmh.
Committee chair Hugh Vercoe says they are committed to reversing the steady increase in the rate of fatalities on Waikato roads.
He says reducing speed limits is an important part of their strategy and they are seeking government support to make the change happen.
