Waikato-Tainui releases new Poukai App

Waikato-Tainui have released a Poukai App aimed at engaging their tribal members in Early Learning education about Poukai, the King Movement and its protocols.  It was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

The App is an interactive digital story-book that focuses on poukai through the eyes of a kuia which shares its history and proceedings in reo Māori sentences.  Any of the words that are pressed, has a pop-up feature and will be repeated by the kuia.  Whānau and tamariki can record themselves as the narrator of the story.

The story is enhanced with sound effects and music sourced from various Waikato-Tainui Poukai.  There's also a special colour-interview to feature various poukai pictures.

The Poukai app aligns with the Waikato-Tainui strategic objectives of Whakatupuranga 2050, Tribal Identity and Success, through their Education Plan (Ko te Mana Maatauranga) which prioritises the language and marae connectivity.

The app is free and can be downloaded from iTunes or Android App Stores now
