Whetū Mātaiata Award to launch at Community Awards

The Trustpower National Community Awards are kicking off this Friday 18 March which will see some of the country’s most passionate and committed volunteers come together in Dunedin for a weekend of networking, learning and sharing their stories.

Each of the 25 groups will be making eight minutes presentations on what the group has achieved and why they deserve to be an award winner at the Trustpower National Community Awards.

The teams also provided a 1,000 word summary prior to the event which provided background information on their project or activities.

Even more is at stake this year with Exult, one of New Zealand’s leading training providers for the community sector, introducing a new award which includes the highly coveted prize of a 12-week mentoring programme, valued at $3,250.00.

Exult’s national facilitator Kerri Tilby-Price wanted to introduce the Whetu Mataiata Award to recognise a group that is already putting in the hard yards, but has potential to thrive even more with a little extra support.

“So many organisations leave great ideas never properly realised because they’re not sure how to take the next step.

If we can help get one great idea to the next level then, not only will the organisation benefit, the whole community will benefit as well,” Tilby Price says.

Over the last 22 years the Trustpower Community Awards have grown into one of the country’s largest volunteer-based Awards programmes.

Thousands of volunteers have been recognised and almost a million dollars has been injected into community groups up and down the country.

The Trustpower National Community Awards will see the announcement of a runner up and a supreme winner, both whom receive a framed certificate, prize money and a voucher from Exult.

The Trustpower National Community Awards Supreme Winner receives $4,000, a framed certificate and a trophy, with the Runner-Up receiving $2,500 and a framed certificate.
