Will you be attending Te Matatini 2015 in line or online?

The biennial Te Matatini festival attracts thousands of spectators over a 4-day period.  The last festival held in Rotorua in 2013 had over 15,000 in attendance during the week.

Online posts throughout the duration of the event attracted over 1 million posts, likes, comments and shares of videos and photos, and continues to generate interest still today.

As social media developments have grown dramatically in the past two years, to include popular apps like Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and more, Te Matatini 2015 is looking to connect more people online to kapa haka than ever before.

Simultaneous live-streaming and live broadcasting is also being provided this week as a kapa haka world-first - available via the Māori Television channels, Te Reo (Freeview 24, Sky 82) and Māori TV (Freeview 5, Sky 19), via the Māori Television website, and for viewers outside of Australasia, via hakatv.com with a pay per view option.

Te Matatini Executive Director Darrin Apanui has said that ticket sales have surpassed expectations already.  The prices vary for youth and adults, and for one-day passes to four-day passes.  All earlybird passes have expired.

While tickets are not completely sold out, fanzone passes seem to be hotly sought after on social media.

If you're travelling from out of town, or out of the country, add to that flights, accommodation and rental car expenses.  Te Kāea understands some groups have paid up to $100,000 to be a part of the event.

So the question begs, will YOU be attending in line or online?
