Women's Black Sticks level series against Argentina

A late goal from Olivia Merry helped the Black Sticks beat Argentina 3-2 in Blenheim last night, levelling their four-match series at one all with two matches to play in their South Island tour.

The Black Sticks started off strong in game two, keeping the World Number 3 Argentinians under pressure.

Kirsten Pearce opened the scoring which made the home crowd excited. She found it easy to get around the opponent's goalkeeper.

However, that lead didn't last long; Argentina easily found their way into the Black Sticks half to score twice, leading into halftime 2 - 1.

In the first few minutes of the second half Gemma Flynn deflected the ball from a penalty corner to equalize the scores.

And it wasn't until the final minutes of the match where NZ got in front again thanks to this goal by Olivia Merry.

Argentina had the chance to equalize once more, but the visitors couldn't convert from their penalty corner.

For the Black Sticks to win 3 - 2.

The teams now travel to Nelson for tomorrow afternoon's third game.
